(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

In the mid-1880s, pharmacist Dr. John Pemberton devised the famous original formula for Coca-Cola, which was then sold originally at Jacobs’ Pharmacy in Atlanta for five cents a drink. Frank M. Robinson, Pemberton’s bookkeeper, designed the now-world-famous logo for Coca-Cola.

I have said this before and I will say it again: Final Jeopardy clues are allowed to be straightforward—”too easy”, even—because the threat of a very straightforward Final Jeopardy clue is enough to keep players betting to win in Final Jeopardy. If there was never an “easy” Final, then contestants would start betting less in Final, thinking that the clues overall will be more difficult, and the episode’s finale would be much less interesting. I have found over the years that a lot of fans look at the surface of such a situation without realizing why things the way they are, with these fans just choosing to complain and giving what would be terrible advice to the show.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the Monday, October 7, 2024 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Stunting At The Gym; The Middle East; NFL Team Addresses; You’re Gonna Have To Share; Opera; Plural-Only Nouns)

Mark opened the game by going immediately to the NFL category and running it. However, it was Amanda who found the Daily Double; she bet the table maximum and sat second at the break. After 15 clues, Mark had $6,000 to Amanda’s $2,400 and Daniel’s -$1,200.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Mark 9 correct 1 incorrect
Amanda 3 correct 0 incorrect
Daniel 1 correct 2 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Amanda dressed up as James Holzhauer for Hallowe’en in 2022.
Daniel was once mistaken for Elton John.
Mark had an English accent until the age of 11 or 12.

The second half of the Jeopardy! Round saw both Amanda and Daniel play well, cutting into Mark’s lead.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Mark 14 correct 2 incorrect
Amanda 6 correct 1 incorrect
Daniel 6 correct 2 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Mark $6,800
Amanda $3,000
Daniel $1,000

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: National Historical Parks; The Foreign-Born Director; Cooking Terms; Spy Novels; Law; Diminishing Returns)

Mark found DD2 about one-third of the way through the round, and his $5,000 made a comeback attempt very difficult for our challengers. Daniel got to DD3 but surrendered any chance at victory by betting just $800. Our first unplayed clue of the season ended the round as we had a double runaway going into Final.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Mark 26 correct 3 incorrect
Daniel 9 correct 3 incorrect
Amanda 8 correct 4 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 1 (1 today).

Scores going into Final:

Mark $23,400
Daniel $4,200
Amanda $600

Alex Trebek always said that trivia is only easy if you know the answer. In what I’d consider a surprise myself, this Final Jeopardy was a Triple Stumper. Mark is a 2-day champion, though! He’ll go for win #3 tomorrow.

Tonight’s results:

Amanda $600 – $0 = $600 (What is Chanel?)
Daniel $4,200 – $0 = $4,200 (What is Currier?)
Mark $23,400 – $3,400 = $20,000 (What is Coco Chanel?) (2-day total: $50,401)
